The European Commission issued two legally binding decisions under the Digital Markets Act requiring Google to increase competitor access.
Google must grant rival AI assistants, such as OpenAI, the same Android hardware and software access currently reserved for Gemini. This mandate includes enabling voice-command activation for third-party AI tools.
A second ruling requires Google to share anonymized search ranking, query, and click data with competing search engines and AI chatbots.
Google must begin sharing search data by January 2027 and implement the Android hardware changes by July 2027. Google stated these requirements could create significant risks to user privacy and security.
