Google integrated agentic AI capabilities into Maps to enable direct food ordering and hotel bookings. The update enhances the Gemini-powered Ask Maps feature to process multi-step conversational requests. Users can now perform complex tasks like finding specific hotel types or ordering meals for pickup along a route.
The food ordering feature is currently rolling out in the U.S. through partnerships with Square and Toast. Google plans to add an Uber Eats integration to the service soon.
This move evolves Maps from a navigation tool into a comprehensive personal assistant. The expansion increases direct competition with established players in the online travel and food delivery sectors.
