Alphabet's Google overhauled its search results in the European Union to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

The European Commission issued a €460 million fine against the company in July. Regulators found Google illegally favored its own shopping, hotel, and transport services.

Google described the changes as the largest quality reduction in its 29-year history. The company warned the update degrades the user experience by removing helpful features.

The new format prioritizes large intermediaries like Expedia and Booking.com over direct listings from local businesses. This shift may increase costs for local firms.
