Google DeepMind and its sister company, Isomorphic Labs, have unveiled a new bioresilience program aimed at using artificial intelligence to combat biological threats. The initiative will leverage Google's advanced AI models to assist governments and researchers in preventing, detecting, and responding to future outbreaks and other biological risks.
The program will focus on three main areas: preventing the misuse of AI models, improving the detection of new pathogens, and accelerating the response to outbreaks. This includes using AI tools like AlphaFold and AlphaGenome to speed up the design of vaccines and other medical countermeasures. Isomorphic Labs has established a dedicated unit to collaborate with governments and health organizations to rapidly design therapeutics during a crisis.
