The Trump administration is considering a $100,000 fee for foreign students to work in the United States after graduation. This proposal targets the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program.
The OPT program extends F-1 student visas for graduates. This extension allows individuals to work in their field of study for one to three years. The Department of Homeland Security is currently discussing the policy and has not finalized it.
The fee would impact Silicon Valley and Wall Street firms that recruit skilled graduates from U.S. universities. A federal court previously blocked a similar administration attempt to impose high fees on H-1B visas.
