Windborne Systems developed WeatherMesh, an AI-powered weather model. The startup claims its system exceeds the accuracy of government forecasts and Google’s GraphCast. WeatherMesh generates a ten-day forecast. The system completes this process in under 60 seconds. The model runs on a single GPU. WeatherMesh operates at a fraction of the time required by traditional physics-based systems.

The company utilizes a constellation of long-duration, remotely-controlled weather balloons to collect proprietary atmospheric data. These sensors capture information over oceans where traditional data sources remain sparse.

Windborne Systems currently holds contracts with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S. Air Force. The company also sells its forecasting services to commercial clients.
