The expansion responds to U.S. government efforts to increase domestic semiconductor manufacturing. Surging global demand for memory chips, driven by AI data center investments, further motivates the proposal.
A U.S.-based plant would allow Solidigm to reduce its operational reliance on its existing production facility in Dalian, China.
SK Hynix stated that Solidigm is reviewing various options to improve business competitiveness. The company noted that no specific plans have been confirmed at this time.
SK Hynix shares rose more than 1% in Friday premarket trading following the report.
