The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) selected Amentum to negotiate the development of an integrated AI and energy infrastructure project in South Carolina. The facility will be located at the Savannah River Site as part of a U.S. Department of Energy land-use initiative.
The project is one of the nation's largest integrated AI and energy infrastructure developments. The plan includes a 1-gigawatt data center. Amentum will construct 2 gigawatts of dedicated on-site power generation to support the facility.
Energy production will initially use natural gas before transitioning to nuclear power. This off-grid model prevents massive AI electricity demands from straining regional utilities. The project aims to eliminate additional costs for existing public ratepayers.
