Indiana Michigan Power (I&M), an American Electric Power subsidiary, proposed a rate reduction for its Indiana customers. The utility attributes the decrease to rising revenue from large-scale users, specifically data centers.
The plan requires approval from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. It would cut rates by approximately $59 million starting in 2027. Average residential customers would save roughly $100 annually.
The proposal also includes a three-year rate freeze for all residential customers. This shift illustrates how surging industrial electricity demand can offset costs for residential ratepayers.
Investors view the development as a key indicator of how AI-driven power demand impacts the utilities sector.
