The U.S. Department of Energy partnered with NextEra Energy and Brookfield to develop an AI and high-performance computing campus. This project occupies a former uranium enrichment site in Paducah, Kentucky. Private investment for the development could exceed $100 billion.
NextEra Energy will build and own the dedicated power infrastructure. The plan includes 2 gigawatts of new gas-fired generation. It also features up to 2.6 gigawatts of battery energy storage. This infrastructure supports a new 1.8 gigawatt data center campus.
Brookfield will develop and operate the campus facilities. The project utilizes the site's existing transmission capacity and water infrastructure. Completion is expected in 2031, pending final agreements and regulatory approvals.
