The Georgia Public Service Commission approved an agreement for Georgia Power to supply a new OpenAI project in Effingham County. This deal addresses a massive 3,200-megawatt load resulting from the artificial intelligence industry's power demand.
OpenAI will fund the required infrastructure and provide 1,000 megawatts of flexible demand response to enhance grid efficiency. The project is projected to generate $950 million in incremental annual revenue for the utility.
Existing customers are expected to see substantial savings from the development. Total savings could exceed $2.8 billion between 2029 and 2031.
