Chipmaker Altera is preparing to file for a confidential initial public offering in the coming weeks. The offering could raise more than $2 billion. A listing may occur as early as this year, though timing and size remain subject to change.

The deal would represent one of the largest semiconductor IPOs since the 2023 debut of Arm Holdings. Altera produces programmable chips used in data centers, telecommunications, and defense.

Intel originally acquired Altera in 2015. Private equity firm Silver Lake recently bought a 51% majority stake in the company. The transaction valued Altera at $8.75 billion. Intel retains a 49% ownership stake.
