Intel shares rose 1.5% in pre-market trading. Reports indicate South Korean manufacturer SK Hynix is considering Intel’s foundry services for its next-generation HBM4E memory.
The potential partnership involves producing base dies, which are critical logic chips that manage communication between memory stacks and GPUs. These components are becoming increasingly complex and costly as High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) technology advances.
Securing this contract would mark a significant shift as SK Hynix currently relies on TSMC for these components. The deal would bolster Intel’s efforts to expand its external contract manufacturing business within the AI supply chain.
Neither company has officially confirmed the arrangement. SK Hynix stated that certain details in the reports are inconsistent with the facts.
