Perplexity has announced a new feature for its Perplexity Computer platform called "hybrid agentic inference," which will automatically split tasks between on-device AI models and more powerful server-based models. This approach is designed to enhance privacy and security by processing sensitive data, such as financial or health information, locally on the user's machine.
For more complex jobs requiring greater computational power, the system will automatically utilize frontier models in the cloud. The announcement gained prominence as Perplexity's CEO, Aravind Srinivas, discussed the need for hybrid AI compute during a keynote at the Computex 2026 conference alongside Intel executives. Perplexity stated the new capability will be available for Perplexity Computer in July.
