Joby Aviation completed a series of flight tests for its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in Marina, California. The aircraft demonstrated operational stability in adverse weather conditions, including dense fog and rain. These milestones support the company’s progress toward Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) type certification.
The company also simulated a mid-flight propeller failure to test safety redundancy. Joby intentionally stopped one of the aircraft's six propellers. The system maintained control by shutting down the opposing propeller. The aircraft hovered using four active propellers before landing safely.
