Lucid Group is recalling 2,039 Air electric sedans in the U.S. due to a defect that may cause sudden power loss.

The recall affects 2024 and 2025 rear-wheel-drive models of the Air Pure. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) filed the notice citing increased crash risks.

Internal vibrations can wear down the drive unit's inverter components. This wear may lead to a total loss of drive power without warning. Dual-motor all-wheel-drive models remain unaffected because they utilize a redundant drive unit.

Lucid will deploy an over-the-air software update to address the issue by late June. The update installs diagnostic software to monitor the inverter and alert drivers of potential failures. Drivers receiving alerts must seek a physical component replacement at a service center.
