L3Harris Technologies successfully completed a hot-fire test of its stage two solid rocket motor. The motor is a critical component for the Missile Defense Agency’s Next Generation Interceptor (NGI).

Lockheed Martin serves as the prime contractor for the program. The initiative aims to protect the U.S. homeland from long-range ballistic missile threats.

Engineers conducted the full-duration burn in a vacuum chamber to simulate high-altitude space conditions. The test validated the motor’s design and performance under extreme mission stresses.

Data gathered from the event will inform the final interceptor design. The NGI program now moves toward its critical design review and eventual fielding.
