Eli Lilly is entering the infectious disease market by acquiring three vaccine companies for a combined $3.83 billion. This strategic expansion diversifies a portfolio currently dominated by blockbuster diabetes and obesity treatments.

The deals include up to $1.5 billion for Curevo, which is developing the next-generation shingles vaccine amezosvatein. Lilly is also paying up to $780 million for LimmaTech Biologics to target antimicrobial-resistant bacteria.

A third acquisition of Vaccine Company for up to $1.55 billion adds a platform for viruses like Epstein-Barr. These moves provide Lilly with a new pipeline of candidates targeting both viral and bacterial pathogens.
