Lightbridge Corporation successfully removed the first batch of Lightbridge Fuel™ material samples from the Advanced Test Reactor at Idaho National Laboratory. Technicians retrieved the samples on May 6, 2026, and the company announced the milestone on June 25, 2026. This extraction marks a critical step in developing next-generation nuclear fuel technology.
The samples will now undergo a cooling period for several months. A detailed post-irradiation examination (PIE) is scheduled to begin later in 2026.
Data collected from the PIE will support the company’s fuel performance modeling. These results are necessary for obtaining regulatory licensing for commercial use. The successful phase completion validates the engineering and innovation of the Lightbridge fuel design.
