Mastercard completed technical procedures to process international bank card transactions in Syria. This move marks the company's return to the market after more than 15 years.
The initiative aims to reconnect Syria to global payment networks and modernize its banking sector. This development follows a September 2025 memorandum of understanding between Mastercard and the Central Bank of Syria.
Central Bank Governor Abdelkader Husrieh stated the reconnection will provide a strong boost to the national economy. He noted the move will help attract international investors to the country.
