According to Bloomberg, Mastercard Inc. requested that major Brazilian payment processors help cover losses from the collapse of Will Financeira.

The failure of the Banco Master-owned fintech left Mastercard liable for approximately 5 billion reais ($997 million) in cardholder reimbursements.

Mastercard has already reimbursed processors for roughly half of the total amount.

The company now proposes sharing the remaining burden and using any future funds recovered from cardholders to offset these losses.

Mastercard shares traded down 0.17% to $498.75 following the report.

Investors weighed the financial exposure against the company's massive global revenue.
