Medtronic finalized its acquisition of SPR Therapeutics, a privately held medical technology company. The deal involved an upfront cash payment of $650 million. This acquisition adds SPR's SPRINT® PNS System to Medtronic's portfolio, enhancing its offerings for treating chronic and acute pain.
The SPRINT system is a minimally invasive, non-opioid therapy. It utilizes peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS). The system provides a 60-day treatment period without a permanent implant. This acquisition allows Medtronic to provide earlier pain relief options. It also expands access to alternatives to conventional pain medications.
The transaction is expected to be minimally dilutive to Medtronic's adjusted earnings per share in fiscal year 2027. It is projected to be neutral to accretive thereafter.
