Meta has deployed an automated system in India to restrict content across Facebook and Instagram at scale. This move responds to a surge in takedown notices from the Union government and state police authorities.

The system enables near-immediate compliance with removal requests. This implementation follows updated IT rules that reduced the legal window for content removal from 36 hours to just three.

Indian authorities now possess extensive power to censor platform content swiftly. Meta will not reinstate blocked content without a government unblocking order, even if the company later deems the initial removal legally improper.
