Italy’s competition authority, AGCM, dropped its investigation into Meta Platforms on Monday. The probe examined allegations that the company abused its dominant market position.
The inquiry launched in July 2025 to address concerns regarding Meta AI integration within WhatsApp. Regulators scrutinized whether the chatbot's prominence unfairly harmed competition in the emerging AI market.
The AGCM closed the national case because the European Commission expanded its broader investigation to include Italy. This move consolidates the antitrust inquiry at the European Union level.
