Meta Platforms signed a pioneering agreement with startup Overview Energy to purchase electricity generated in space. The deal provides Meta early access to an orbital system that collects solar energy and beams it to terrestrial solar farms. This technology enables ground-based facilities to generate power around the clock.
The partnership secures scalable energy sources for Meta’s energy-intensive artificial intelligence infrastructure. This agreement marks one of the first major corporate commitments to space-based solar power.
An initial orbital demonstration is scheduled for 2028. Commercial power delivery is expected to begin in 2030.
