Meta’s Facebook and Instagram platforms hosted approximately 7,600 advertisements for AI nudify applications. These apps generate fake nude images in direct violation of Meta’s policies against sexually suggestive content.
Beijing-based GatherOne, an authorized Meta advertising partner, placed the ads according to the Tech Transparency Project. The nonprofit’s report highlights a significant failure in Meta’s moderation and oversight of its Chinese partners.
Users reportedly flagged some promoted applications for containing child pornography.
Meta stated it has removed the ads and is taking aggressive steps to combat the content. GatherOne suspended new ad applications for these services to improve its compliance systems.
