Moderna and Merck have initiated a Phase 3 clinical trial for their personalized mRNA cancer vaccine, intismeran. The study, titled INTerpath-014, targets patients with high-risk stage I non-small cell lung cancer.

Researchers will evaluate the vaccine as an adjuvant therapy following surgery to prevent cancer recurrence. The trial tests intismeran as both a standalone treatment and in combination with immunotherapy, comparing results against a placebo.

The technology aims to train the immune system to recognize and target a patient's specific tumor mutations. This trial represents a significant step in using mRNA to reduce relapse risks in early-stage lung cancer.
