Moderna’s investigational flu vaccine, mRNA-1010, produces a broader and more durable antibody response than conventional shots. A study in Nature Immunology found the vaccine diversifies B cell responses and sustains germinal centers for longer periods.
Researchers observed that 38% of mRNA-1010 recipients maintained immune activity in lymph nodes for six months. No participants who received standard vaccines maintained detectable immune activity over the same period. These findings explain the vaccine's strong performance in previous clinical trials.
The FDA is currently reviewing the vaccine. A regulatory decision is expected by August 5, 2026.
