A coalition including OpenAI, Microsoft, Nvidia, AMD, Broadcom, and Intel introduced the Multipath Reliable Connection (MRC) networking protocol. This new standard improves the performance and reliability of large-scale AI training.
The protocol allows a single connection to distribute data traffic across multiple network paths simultaneously. This mechanism enhances throughput, balances network loads, and increases availability for massive AI systems.
MRC functions as a next-generation Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) transport protocol. Microsoft and Oracle have already deployed the technology within their major AI data centers.
The coalition released MRC specifications through the Open Compute Project to establish an open industry standard. This move allows hardware and software manufacturers to build compatible infrastructure for growing AI demands.
