The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched an antitrust investigation into Microsoft on May 14.
Regulators are assessing if bundling Windows, Office, and Teams stifles competition and limits consumer choice. The probe will determine if Microsoft holds a Strategic Market Status (SMS). This designation grants the CMA power to impose new rules and remedies on the company.
The inquiry also examines whether rivals face barriers integrating AI tools with Microsoft software. Investigators are specifically reviewing competition for the Copilot AI assistant.
