The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched an investigation into Microsoft 365 subscription renewals. The probe examines whether Microsoft misled customers regarding price increases after bundling Copilot AI into Personal and Family plans.
Microsoft automatically transitioned existing subscribers to higher-priced plans starting in January 2025. The CMA is evaluating if the company clearly disclosed price differences or the option to choose a cheaper Classic plan without AI features.
The investigation remains ongoing with no current finding of legal violations. Regulators in Australia and Italy have launched similar probes into the company's practices.
