Microsoft will deploy its AI-powered assistant, Microsoft 365 Copilot, to 505,000 NHS clinicians and support staff. This initiative represents the largest healthcare AI implementation globally. The rollout aims to streamline administrative tasks and reduce costs to increase time for patient care.
A preliminary trial of 30,000 workers saved users an average of 43 minutes daily. The full deployment is projected to save millions of hours annually. The NHS will onboard 200,000 users during the first six months. Full implementation across the health service will be complete by October 2026.
The agreement includes access to Copilot Studio for building custom automated workflows. Staff will use the AI to draft letters, manage patient discharges, and generate financial reports.
