Microsoft launched the worldwide general availability of its Copilot Cowork AI agent for Microsoft 365 customers on June 16, 2026. The service automates complex, long-running business tasks across multiple applications without direct user supervision. More than half of Fortune 500 companies adopted the tool during its three-month preview phase.
Microsoft introduced a usage-based billing model for Cowork, charging customers per completed task rather than a flat subscription fee. The service currently utilizes Anthropic AI models, while select customers can access OpenAI’s GPT 5.5. Microsoft also announced its forthcoming Cowork 1 model to reduce task processing costs.
