Microsoft launched a suite of proprietary artificial intelligence models at its annual Build developer conference. Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleyman introduced a reasoning model for enterprise users and an efficient coding model for GitHub Copilot.
The initiative aims to reduce Microsoft's reliance on partner OpenAI while competing with Google and Anthropic. These in-house models perform tasks including code generation, transcription, and image processing.
Microsoft intends to offer customers less expensive alternatives through these tools. The move provides the company with greater control over core technology in a critical growth area.
