OpenAI introduced Computer History, an opt-in feature for the ChatGPT macOS desktop app. The tool creates a timeline of user activity across selected applications and websites. This functionality provides contextual memory for ChatGPT and Codex AI models.

Users can query recent work, locate documents, or summarize activities without manual context entry. The feature is available exclusively for ChatGPT Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers.

Computer History is disabled by default and requires users to select specific applications for monitoring. It replaces the previous Chronicle research preview.

The system records interaction events like clicks and typing instead of capturing screenshots. OpenAI processes these events on its servers to generate memories. The company does not retain the data after processing or use it for model training.
