OpenAI plans to build a data center complex near Savannah, Georgia, costing over $30 billion. The Effingham County facility enables OpenAI to directly manage its own critical infrastructure. This strategic move secures the computing power required for training sophisticated AI models.
Georgia Power will provide 3.2 gigawatts of electricity to the site. The initial phase of the project is scheduled to go online in 2028. The full campus build-out will extend through 2032.
The development will create up to 1,000 jobs at full capacity. This project marks one of the largest private investments in the region's history.
