SpaceX finalized its $60 billion all-stock acquisition of Anysphere, the parent company of AI code editor Cursor. The transaction officially closed in August 2026.
Cursor now operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of SpaceXAI. This division emerged earlier in 2026 following a merger between SpaceX and Elon Musk’s xAI.
The acquisition integrates Cursor’s code-generation technology into the Grok family of AI models. SpaceX will utilize Cursor’s large volume of user interaction data to train future artificial intelligence systems.
This move positions SpaceX as a direct competitor to Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic in the AI coding market. Cursor has since launched Origin, a code-hosting platform for AI agents designed to compete with GitHub.
