ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), China’s leading DRAM producer, is expanding into the NAND flash memory market. The company plans to establish a research and development production line at a new facility in Beijing.
This strategic pivot addresses a global memory shortage fueled by surging demand for AI servers. Industry forecasts indicate this supply deficit will persist until at least 2027.
The move places CXMT in direct competition with global market leader Samsung Electronics and domestic rival Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC). CXMT has already discussed chip supply with potential customers, including a startup developing storage for AI systems and supercomputers.
This expansion marks a significant escalation in China’s national drive for semiconductor self-sufficiency.
