ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has launched low-volume production of HBM3E. This high-bandwidth memory is a critical component for artificial intelligence processors. The development marks a major step in Beijing’s push for semiconductor self-sufficiency amid U.S. export controls.
Alibaba’s T-Head unit is already testing the new chips for integration. Domestic designers expect to incorporate CXMT hardware into processors as early as next year.
CXMT currently trails market leaders SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron by three to five years. Equipment restrictions continue to hamper progress for the Chinese manufacturer. However, the milestone narrows the technological gap and increases competition in the AI hardware sector.
