Renaissance Technologies, the quantitative hedge fund founded by Jim Simons, drastically cut its holding in Micron Technology (MU) by over 90% during the second quarter of 2026. According to the firm's quarterly ownership disclosure, which reflects trades made between April 1 and June 30, its position was reduced from 2.16 million shares to just over 211,000. The value of the reported holding fell from approximately $730.74 million to $244.22 million.

This significant reduction occurred during a period of extraordinary performance for Micron's stock, which saw massive gains in the first half of the year and hit an all-time high in late June. [2] The 13F filing, made public in August, reveals the firm's positioning as of June 30 and is not indicative of current holdings. Other major hedge funds also trimmed their Micron stakes during the same quarter after the stock's powerful rally. [5, 6]
