Micron Technology (MU) stock rose over 5% on September 17. CEO Sanjay Mehrotra detailed the company’s new Gujarat facility at the SEMICON India 2026 conference.

The plant is the first major semiconductor assembly and test facility in India. It has already commenced commercial shipments of DRAM and NAND products to global customers.

Micron and Indian government partners invested approximately $2.75 billion in the project. The facility serves as a key component in diversifying Micron’s global manufacturing footprint.

The plant aims to assemble tens of millions of chips in 2026. Production will scale to hundreds of millions of units in 2027 to meet surging artificial intelligence demand.
