Micron Technology Inc. increased its planned U.S. manufacturing and research investment to more than $250 billion through 2035. This expansion addresses surging demand for memory chips used in artificial intelligence.
The company aims to produce 40% of its DRAM chips within the United States. Micron projects the initiative will create over 90,000 jobs. These positions will be located across operations in New York and Idaho.
The plan allocates $3 billion to strengthen the domestic semiconductor supply-chain ecosystem. This includes strategic financing for a raw silicon wafer manufacturing facility.
