Micron Technology broke ground on a ¥1.5 trillion ($9.3 billion) factory expansion in Hiroshima, Japan. The facility will produce advanced high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips for artificial intelligence processors. Shipments from the new site are expected to begin by the summer of 2028.
Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is providing up to ¥500 billion in subsidies for the project. The expansion aims to meet surging global demand driven by the AI sector. This investment complements Micron’s other major manufacturing projects, including a $100 billion site in New York.
