Novo Nordisk launched the oral version of its Wegovy weight-loss drug in Germany on September 1, 2026. This release marks the first entry of the GLP-1 pill into the European Union.

The tablet provides a more convenient alternative to the existing injectable pen. This format aims to broaden drug adoption by offering an easier administration method.

The European Commission approved the semaglutide-based pill in July 2026. Pricing in Germany will remain comparable to the injectable Wegovy pen.

The move heightens competition with U.S. rival Eli Lilly in the obesity treatment sector. The pill is already available in the United States, United Kingdom, and United Arab Emirates.
