Novo Nordisk secured marketing authorization from the European Commission for a once-daily pill version of Wegovy. This is the first oral GLP-1 receptor agonist approved for weight management across the 27-nation bloc. The pill provides an alternative to the injectable version currently available.
The approval covers adults who are obese or overweight with at least one weight-related health condition. This decision follows a positive recommendation from the European Medicines Agency's expert panel in May 2026.
This marks the fifth regulatory approval for the Wegovy pill. The treatment is already available in the U.S. and U.K. Novo Nordisk plans further market launches for the second half of the year.
