The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) approved Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy to treat a severe form of fatty liver disease in India.

The approval targets adults with noncirrhotic metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and moderate to advanced liver fibrosis.

Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4 mg) is the first GLP-1 receptor agonist authorized for this condition in the country.

MASH results from excess liver fat and can cause chronic inflammation, cirrhosis, or liver failure.

This new indication expands Wegovy’s Indian market beyond its current use for chronic weight management.
