The Italian Council of Ministers designated Energy Vault’s Digital Vault Sulcis program as a project of pre-eminent national strategic interest. This initiative converts a former coal mining site in Sardinia into an Edge AI data center. The facility integrates renewable energy with storage infrastructure.
The government endorsement provides an accelerated administrative and authorization pathway for the development. The initial phase will establish approximately 30 MW of AI-focused IT capacity.
Future plans include expanding capacity to 50-60 MW. The total site power capacity will reach up to 100 MW. This project supports Italy’s digital sovereignty and marks a milestone for Energy Vault’s European AI strategy.
