Natera Signatera outperforms standard test for skin cancer recurrence, JAMA study shows

Natera published a study in JAMA Dermatology evaluating its Signatera molecular residual disease (MRD) test. The research focused on predicting recurrence in Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC), an aggressive skin cancer.

The prospective, multicenter study monitored 169 patients. Signatera demonstrated 90% sensitivity in detecting cancer recurrence. The standard AMERK test showed 55% sensitivity in the same patient group.

Signatera identified relapses with a median lead time of 5.1 months. The AMERK test provided a median lead time of 2.1 months. These results support Signatera as a more reliable biomarker for MCC surveillance.
