Valencia, Spain-based startup iPronics has raised $125 million in a venture capital round co-led by Maverick Silicon and Light Street Capital, with participation from Nvidia and other investors. The company is developing optical circuit switch (OCS) technology, a type of networking chip used to connect massive numbers of processors in AI supercomputers.
iPronics aims to use the funding to shrink its OCS equipment by about 20-fold, making the hardware more compact for server racks. The key benefit of this technology is creating resilient and reliable networks that can quickly reroute, or "rewire," around failed computing chips, a growing problem as AI data centers scale to hundreds of thousands of chips.
