Taiwanese prosecutors have indicted nine individuals, including employees from Nvidia and Super Micro, for their alleged involvement in a scheme to illegally export high-end artificial intelligence servers to China. The defendants are accused of using fraudulent documents to bypass the companies' internal controls and violate U.S. export restrictions that have been in place since 2022.
The group allegedly exported 74 servers equipped with advanced Nvidia chips to China, sometimes routing them through other countries like Japan and Indonesia to conceal their final destination. An additional 56 servers were intercepted by Taiwanese authorities before they could be shipped. Prosecutors stated the defendants acted for "enormous profit" and have severely damaged Taiwan's international image.
